Trimborn Farm had so many interesting activities with historical things to see and learn! This is what one student wrote:
Trimborn Farm made history come to life right before my eyes. My favorite place was the dusty kilns. But I have to say, the messy bunk house was pretty interesting. Trimborn Farm is like a fun park!
The best place of all was the kilns! The main part of Trimborn Farm, in the old days, was to make a powdery lime. They had to burn rock-hard limestone at about a sizzling 1600 degrees! They made mortar with lime. All you need is lime, smooth sand, and water. If you mix them up, you’ll end up with gooey mortar.
As we walked to our next station, I realized how amazingly small and rusty the bunk house was. I looked around, I spotted a scratched up bunk bed. The guide spoke about how only tight ropes were keeping the mattress up. That's where the phrase “Sleep Tight” comes from! The thing they the put in mattresses was itchy hay. There were bugs crawling around in the rough hay! That's were the phrase, "Don't let the bugs bite" comes from! If it was winter, going to the outhouse would be too cold. So, they would relieve themselves in a little pot. That’s where “Potty” comes from! Trimborn Farm made fun learning.
