Hi! I am the counselor and also conduct social work duties for Harvey Elementary. My main goal is to assist your child in removing obstacles to learning. I go into classrooms to deliver developmental guidance lessons each month to all Harvey students. These lessons are based on both district and state standards as well as national standards for school counselors. I also work with students both individually and in small groups. Many of the students I see are self-referred to work out a small issue between themselves and another child. This is a great opportunity for your student to learn to solve conflicts in a productive way with others. School staff and parents also frequently refer students for assistance. Often parents contact me when their child is going through a trauma or adjustment in their lives. I work with children when there is a family change like divorce or deployment of a parent, as well as other issues that children need to better understand or learn coping strategies to navigate successfully. I also assist parents with a variety of concerns about their child. As a school counselor I also serve students who are already working with an outside therapist. Coordination with outside therapists can enhance the assistance children receive. Counselors have a variety of other duties in the school, too many to mention here. Just know I am here to assist you, your child, and teachers to enable your children to learn and thrive. I consider it a privilege to work with your miracle, your child.
